Effective date: 23 October 2026.
This Privacy Policy explains what personal data SportzClaus collects when you visit sportzclaus.com, why we collect it, who we share it with and the choices you have. SportzClaus is known as SportsClaus on social media.
SportzClaus is owned and run by Gurlal Dhillon, an individual based in India, who is responsible for your data under this policy. You can contact us at any time at sportsclaus20@gmail.com.
This policy covers the website only. Social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, X, YouTube and Threads handle your data under their own policies.
The short version
- You can read SportzClaus without an account and without giving us your name or email.
- We only collect personal details that you choose to send us, such as a contact message, a newsletter signup or a comment.
- We use Google Analytics to understand how many people visit and which pages they read.
- We may show ads from Google, which can use cookies.
- We never sell your personal data.
Information you give us
Contact form. When you use our Contact Us form, we collect your first name, last name, email address, your message and, if you choose to add it, your phone number. The message is stored privately in our website’s admin area and sent to our email inbox so we can reply. We use it only to answer you.
Emails to us. If you email us, we receive your email address, your name if your email shows it and whatever you write.
Newsletter. If you subscribe to our newsletter, we store your email address, the date you signed up and the IP address the signup came from. We use your email only to send you SportzClaus updates and the IP address only to prevent fake or spam signups. You can unsubscribe at any time by emailing us, and we will delete your email from the list.
Comments. If you comment on an article, we collect the name, email address and website you enter, your comment, your IP address and your browser details. These help us detect spam. Your name, website and comment are shown publicly. Your email address is never shown.
An anonymous code made from your email address (called a hash) may be sent to the Gravatar service to check whether you have a Gravatar profile picture. Gravatar is run by Automattic. If you have a Gravatar profile, your picture is shown next to your comment.
Polls and reactions. You can vote in fan polls and react to articles without giving us any personal details. Only the total votes and reactions are shown. To stop the same person voting again and again, our server keeps a scrambled code (a salted hash) made from your connection. It cannot be used to identify you and is deleted automatically, after 12 hours for polls and after 30 days for reactions.
Information collected automatically
Server logs. Like every website, our hosting provider Hostinger automatically records basic technical details when a page is requested: your IP address, browser type, the page you asked for, the page you came from and the date and time. These logs are used to keep the website running, secure and fast, and are kept only for a short time.
Google Analytics. We use Google Analytics, connected through Google Site Kit, to count visits and see which articles are read, how people find us (for example from Google Search) and roughly which country and type of device they use. Google Analytics uses cookies and similar technology. We see this information as totals and reports, not as profiles of named people. You can stop Google Analytics from measuring your visits with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
Security and caching. Our website uses caching and a content delivery network provided by our host so pages load quickly. Short-lived security checks, such as limits on how many messages can be sent from one connection, use scrambled codes rather than your raw IP address.
Cookies and browser storage
Cookies are small files saved by your browser. Browser storage (local storage) works in a similar way. SportzClaus and the services we use save the following:
| Name or type | Who sets it | What it does | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
| sportzclaus-theme | SportzClaus | Remembers whether you chose light or dark mode | Until you clear your browser data |
| Newsletter reminder | SportzClaus | Remembers that you closed or used the newsletter box, so it does not keep appearing | Up to 400 days |
| Poll choice | SportzClaus | Remembers your earlier vote so it can show you the results | Until you clear your browser data |
| Comment cookies | SportzClaus (WordPress) | Remember your name and email for the next comment, only if you tick the box | About one year |
| _ga and _ga_ cookies | Google Analytics | Count visits and tell new and returning visitors apart | Up to two years |
| Advertising cookies | Google and its partners | Show and measure ads, when ads are shown | Set by Google |
| Embedded content cookies | X, YouTube and other embedded services | Used by the embedded post or video | Set by that service |
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. If you do, the website will still work, but it may forget your light or dark mode choice and show the newsletter box again.
Advertising
To keep SportzClaus free, we may show ads served by Google AdSense. When ads are shown:
- Third party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your earlier visits to this website and other websites.
- Google’s use of advertising cookies allows Google and its partners to show you ads based on your visits to SportzClaus and other sites on the internet.
- You can turn off personalised advertising in Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some other companies’ use of cookies for personalised ads at aboutads.info.
Learn more about how Google uses information from sites that use its services and about Google’s advertising cookies. We do not control the cookies used by advertisers.
Embedded content from other websites
Some articles include embedded posts from X or videos from YouTube. Embedded content behaves exactly as if you had visited that website. Those services may collect data about you, use cookies and track your interaction with the embedded content, especially if you are logged in to them.
How we use your information
- To run the website and show you the pages you ask for.
- To reply to your messages and fix errors you report.
- To send the newsletter you signed up for.
- To publish and moderate comments.
- To count poll votes and reactions fairly.
- To understand which articles are useful so we can improve our coverage.
- To keep the website secure and stop spam and abuse.
- To show ads, when ads are shown.
We do not use your data for automated decisions that have legal or similar effects on you.
Our legal basis
We process personal data in line with India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023. We rely on your consent when you send us a message, subscribe, comment or vote, and you can withdraw that consent at any time by contacting us. For visitors in the European Union or the United Kingdom, we rely on your consent for cookies and newsletters and on our legitimate interests to run, protect and improve the website.
Who we share data with
We never sell or rent your personal data. We share it only with the service providers that help us run SportzClaus:
- Hostinger: hosts our website, its database and our caching.
- Google: Google Analytics for visitor statistics and Google AdSense for ads, when ads are shown.
- Automattic (Gravatar): profile pictures for comments.
- X and YouTube: only when you view an article with their embedded content.
We may also share information if the law requires it, for example in response to a valid request from a court or government authority, or to protect SportzClaus and its readers from fraud or abuse.
Where your data is stored
Our website is hosted by Hostinger. Google and other providers may process data on servers outside India. When that happens, they protect it under their own privacy and security commitments.
How long we keep your data
- Contact messages and emails: for as long as we need them to deal with your message and keep a record of our reply. You can ask us to delete them at any time.
- Newsletter signups: until you unsubscribe.
- Comments: for as long as the comment is published. You can ask us to remove your comment.
- Poll and reaction codes: deleted automatically after 12 hours (polls) or 30 days (reactions).
- Google Analytics data: for the period set in our Analytics account, which is no longer than 14 months.
- Server logs: kept by our host for a short period for security.
Your rights
You have the right to:
- Ask what personal data we hold about you and get a copy.
- Ask us to correct or complete data that is wrong.
- Ask us to delete your data.
- Withdraw your consent at any time, for example by unsubscribing from the newsletter.
- Nominate another person to use these rights for you if you are unable to.
- Complain to us, and if you are not happy with our answer, to the Data Protection Board of India. Visitors in the European Union or the United Kingdom can also complain to their local data protection authority.
To use any of these rights, email sportsclaus20@gmail.com. We will reply within 30 days. We may ask you to confirm that the request comes from you before we share or delete anything.
Children
SportzClaus is written for a general audience of sports fans. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 18 without the consent of a parent or guardian. If you believe a child has sent us personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.
Security
We keep the website and its software up to date, use secure HTTPS connections on every page and limit who can access messages and subscriber details. No website can be completely secure, but we work hard to protect the data you share with us.
Changes to this policy
We will update this policy when the way we handle data changes, for example if we add a new service. The effective date at the top of the page shows when it was last changed. For important changes, we will also add a short note on this page.
