Trades Already Done

Two deals are already complete. In June, Rishabh Pant moved from Lucknow Super Giants back to Delhi Capitals on a reduced fee, and Kuldeep Yadav went the other way. The BCCI confirmed that trade on 23 June 2026. On 14 October, T Natarajan returned to Sunrisers Hyderabad on a reduced fee, and leg-spinner Zeeshan Ansari moved to Delhi.

Team-by-Team Retained and Released Players

The teams are listed in the order they finished in IPL 2026. Salaries are what each player earned in 2026, and players who joined by trade are marked. A squad can have 18 to 25 players, with no more than eight from overseas.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB)

2026 finish: Champions. Captain in 2026: Rajat Patidar.

Likely to be released: Yash Dayal (₹5 crore), Suyash Sharma (₹2.6 crore). Total salary: ₹7.6 crore.

Likely to be kept (24 players): Virat Kohli, Josh Hazlewood, Phil Salt, Jitesh Sharma, Rajat Patidar, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Venkatesh Iyer, Rasikh Salam, Krunal Pandya, Mangesh Yadav, Tim David, Jacob Bethell, Jacob Duffy, Devdutt Padikkal, Richard Gleeson, Nuwan Thushara, Romario Shepherd, Jordan Cox, Swapnil Singh, Abhinandan Singh, Kanishk Chouhan, Satvik Deswal, Vihaan Malhotra, Vicky Ostwal.

Squad after these moves: 24 players, 9 of them from overseas. That is one more than the limit of eight, so at least one overseas player still has to go.

The big question: The champions only need fine-tuning. Jitesh Sharma and Devdutt Padikkal stay, and Yash Dayal missed the whole 2026 season for personal reasons.

Gujarat Titans (GT)

2026 finish: Runners-up. Captain in 2026: Shubman Gill.

Likely to be released: Shahrukh Khan (₹4 crore), Glenn Phillips (₹2 crore), Ishant Sharma (₹75 lakh), Jayant Yadav (₹75 lakh), Kumar Kushagra (₹65 lakh), Anuj Rawat (₹30 lakh). Total salary: ₹8.45 crore.

Likely to be kept (21 players): Rashid Khan, Shubman Gill, Jos Buttler, Mohammed Siraj, Kagiso Rabada, Prasidh Krishna, Sai Sudharsan, Jason Holder, Rahul Tewatia, Washington Sundar, Sai Kishore, Tom Banton, Arshad Khan, Gurnoor Brar, Ashok Sharma, Connor Esterhuizen, Luke Wood, Manav Suthar, Kulwant Khejroliya, Nishant Sindhu, Prithvi Raj.

Squad after these moves: 21 players, 7 of them from overseas, which leaves up to 4 places to fill at the auction.

The big question: Gujarat reached the final with a strong top order and the season’s leading wicket-taker in Rabada. Jason Holder stays, and their search is for a big hitter in the middle order.

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)

2026 finish: 3rd. Captain in 2026: Pat Cummins.

Likely to be released: Liam Livingstone (₹13 crore), Harshal Patel (₹8 crore), Jack Edwards (₹3 crore), Jaydev Unadkat (₹1 crore), Brydon Carse (₹1 crore), Kamindu Mendis (₹75 lakh), Shivam Mavi (₹75 lakh). Total salary: ₹27.5 crore.

Likely to be kept (22 players): Heinrich Klaasen, Pat Cummins, Abhishek Sharma, Travis Head, Ishan Kishan, Nitish Kumar Reddy, T Natarajan (traded in), Gerald Coetzee, Salil Arora, David Payne, Eshan Malinga, Dilshan Madushanka, RS Ambrish, Harsh Dubey, Smaran Ravichandran, Praful Hinge, Krains Fuletra, Sakib Hussain, Shivang Kumar, Amit Kumar, Onkar Tarmale, Aniket Verma.

Squad after these moves: 22 players, 7 of them from overseas, which leaves up to 3 places to fill at the auction.

The big question: Livingstone at ₹13 crore is the big call. Three of the names here, Edwards, Carse and Mavi, withdrew from the 2026 squad, and T Natarajan is back after the October trade with Delhi.

Rajasthan Royals (RR)

2026 finish: 4th. Captain in 2026: Riyan Parag.

Likely to be released: Tushar Deshpande (₹6.5 crore), Sam Curran (₹2.4 crore), Lhuan-dre Pretorius (₹30 lakh), Vignesh Puthur (₹30 lakh), Sushant Mishra (₹30 lakh), Aman Rao (₹30 lakh). Total salary: ₹10.1 crore.

Likely to be kept (21 players): Yashasvi Jaiswal, Riyan Parag, Ravindra Jadeja, Dhruv Jurel, Jofra Archer, Shimron Hetmyer, Ravi Bishnoi, Sandeep Sharma, Nandre Burger, Adam Milne, Dasun Shanaka, Kwena Maphaka, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Donovan Ferreira, Ravi Singh, Yash Raj Punja, Shubham Dubey, Kuldeep Sen, Yudhvir Singh, Brijesh Sharma, Emanjot Chahal.

Squad after these moves: 21 players, 7 of them from overseas, which leaves up to 4 places to fill at the auction.

The big question: Rajasthan have the season’s top run-scorer in Vaibhav Sooryavanshi (776 runs). Shimron Hetmyer and young leg-spinner Yash Raj Punja stay, so Tushar Deshpande at ₹6.5 crore is the main contract to go.

Punjab Kings (PBKS)

2026 finish: 5th. Captain in 2026: Shreyas Iyer.

Likely to be released: Yuzvendra Chahal (₹18 crore), Ben Dwarshuis (₹4.4 crore), Mitchell Owen (₹3 crore), Lockie Ferguson (₹2 crore). Total salary: ₹27.4 crore.

Likely to be kept (21 players): Shreyas Iyer, Arshdeep Singh, Marcus Stoinis, Marco Jansen, Shashank Singh, Nehal Wadhera, Prabhsimran Singh, Priyansh Arya, Cooper Connolly, Azmatullah Omarzai, Vijaykumar Vyshak, Yash Thakur, Harpreet Brar, Vishnu Vinod, Xavier Bartlett, Suryansh Shedge, Praveen Dubey, Vishal Nishad, Musheer Khan, Pyla Avinash, Harnoor Singh.

Squad after these moves: 21 players, 5 of them from overseas, which leaves up to 4 places to fill at the auction.

The big question: Releasing Yuzvendra Chahal would free ₹18 crore, the joint biggest saving on any list. Marcus Stoinis and Xavier Bartlett stay.

Delhi Capitals (DC)

2026 finish: 6th. Captain in 2026: Axar Patel.

Likely to be released: Kyle Jamieson (₹2 crore), Ben Duckett (₹2 crore), Dushmantha Chameera (₹75 lakh), Karun Nair (₹50 lakh), Madhav Tiwari (₹40 lakh), Ajay Mandal (₹30 lakh), Tripurana Vijay (₹30 lakh). Total salary: ₹6.25 crore.

Likely to be kept (19 players): Axar Patel, Rishabh Pant (traded in), KL Rahul, Mitchell Starc, Tristan Stubbs, Auqib Nabi, Mukesh Kumar, Nitish Rana, Abhishek Porel, Pathum Nissanka, Ashutosh Sharma, David Miller, Lungi Ngidi, Sameer Rizvi, Rehan Ahmed, Prithvi Shaw, Vipraj Nigam, Zeeshan Ansari (traded in), Sahil Parakh.

Squad after these moves: 19 players, 6 of them from overseas, which leaves up to 6 places to fill at the auction.

The big question: Rishabh Pant is back after the June trade with Lucknow, and Kuldeep Yadav has gone the other way. Delhi then sent T Natarajan to Hyderabad for Zeeshan Ansari. Mitchell Starc and Nitish Rana stay, and Pant’s return raises a captaincy question, with Axar Patel leading the side in 2026.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)

2026 finish: 7th. Captain in 2026: Ajinkya Rahane (retired).

Likely to be released: Matheesha Pathirana (₹18 crore), Tejasvi Singh (₹3 crore), Rachin Ravindra (₹2 crore), Manish Pandey (₹75 lakh), Rahul Tripathi (₹75 lakh), Blessing Muzarabani (₹75 lakh), Prashant Solanki (₹30 lakh). Total salary: ₹25.55 crore.

Likely to be kept (20 players): Cameron Green, Rinku Singh, Varun Chakravarthy, Sunil Narine, Ramandeep Singh, Harshit Rana, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Finn Allen, Vaibhav Arora, Tim Seifert, Rovman Powell, Akash Deep, Navdeep Saini, Umran Malik, Anukul Roy, Sarthak Ranjan, Kartik Tyagi, Saurabh Dubey, Daksh Kamra, Luvnith Sisodia.

Squad after these moves: 20 players, 5 of them from overseas, which leaves up to 5 places to fill at the auction.

The big question: Pathirana cost ₹18 crore at the last auction but withdrew from the 2026 squad. Captain Ajinkya Rahane retired from all cricket on 30 July, so Kolkata need a new leader. Ramandeep Singh stays.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK)

2026 finish: 8th. Captain in 2026: Ruturaj Gaikwad.

Likely to be released: Prashant Veer (₹14.2 crore), Rahul Chahar (₹5.2 crore), Matt Henry (₹2 crore), Matthew Short (₹1.5 crore), Zak Foulkes (₹75 lakh), Shreyas Gopal (₹30 lakh). Total salary: ₹23.95 crore.

Likely to be kept (24 players): Sanju Samson, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Kartik Sharma, Shivam Dube, Noor Ahmad, Khaleel Ahmed, MS Dhoni, Anshul Kamboj, Gurjapneet Singh, Dewald Brevis, Akeal Hosein, Nathan Ellis, Spencer Johnson, Jamie Overton, Dian Forrester, Sarfaraz Khan, Aman Hakim Khan, Kuldip Yadav, Akash Madhwal, Macneil Noronha, Urvil Patel, Mukesh Choudhary, Ramakrishna Ghosh, Ayush Mhatre.

Squad after these moves: 24 players, 7 of them from overseas, which leaves up to one place to fill at the auction.

The big question: Chennai have missed the playoffs twice in a row, and new head coach Zaheer Khan arrives with an overseas pace attack to fix. Prashant Veer, bought for ₹14.2 crore, is the big release, while Shivam Dube, Dewald Brevis, Akeal Hosein and Sarfaraz Khan stay. MS Dhoni, who missed 2026 with a calf injury, has not yet said whether he will play in 2027.

Mumbai Indians (MI)

2026 finish: 9th. Captain in 2026: Hardik Pandya.

Likely to be released: Deepak Chahar (₹9.25 crore), Sherfane Rutherford (₹2.6 crore), Shardul Thakur (₹2 crore), Mitchell Santner (₹2 crore), Mahipal Lomror (₹50 lakh), Raj Angad Bawa (₹30 lakh), Danish Malewar (₹30 lakh), Mohammad Izhar (₹30 lakh). Total salary: ₹17.25 crore.

Likely to be kept (21 players): Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, Rohit Sharma, Trent Boult, Tilak Varma, Naman Dhir, Will Jacks, Allah Ghazanfar, Ryan Rickelton, Quinton de Kock, Corbin Bosch, Keshav Maharaj, Robin Minz, Krish Bhagat, Ashwani Kumar, Ruchit Ahir, Mayank Markande, Mayank Rawat, Raghu Sharma, Atharva Ankolekar.

Squad after these moves: 21 players, 7 of them from overseas, which leaves up to 4 places to fill at the auction.

The big question: After finishing ninth, the big debate in Mumbai is whether they break up the expensive core of Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav, who cost more than ₹16 crore each.

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG)

2026 finish: 10th. Captain in 2026: Rishabh Pant (traded to DC).

Likely to be released: Mayank Yadav (₹11 crore), Anrich Nortje (₹2 crore). Total salary: ₹13 crore.

Likely to be kept (24 players): Nicholas Pooran, Kuldeep Yadav (traded in), Mohammed Shami, Avesh Khan, Josh Inglis, Abdul Samad, Ayush Badoni, Mohsin Khan, Mitchell Marsh, Mukul Choudhary, Shahbaz Ahmed, Akshat Raghuwanshi, Aiden Markram, Wanindu Hasaranga, Naman Tiwari, George Linde, Matthew Breetzke, Manimaran Siddharth, Arjun Tendulkar, Prince Yadav, Arshin Kulkarni, Himmat Singh, Akash Singh, Digvesh Rathi.

Squad after these moves: 24 players, 7 of them from overseas, which leaves up to one place to fill at the auction.

The big question: Lucknow finished last and lost their captain when Rishabh Pant stepped down in May and was traded to Delhi. Nicholas Pooran, Avesh Khan and Mohsin Khan stay, while Mayank Yadav played four games without a wicket on an ₹11 crore contract.
