History & Evolution
The Lanka Premier League (LPL) is Sri Lanka Cricket's premier franchise Twenty20 tournament, launched in 2020 with five city-based teams. The Jaffna franchise dominated the early years, winning four of the first five titles (as Jaffna Stallions in 2020 and Jaffna Kings in 2021, 2022 and 2024), while B-Love Kandy claimed the 2023 crown. The 2025 edition was postponed so venues could be prepared for the 2026 T20 World Cup co-hosted by Sri Lanka, and the sixth edition was instead played in July-August 2026, with Galle Gallants beating Jaffna Kings in the final for their first title.

The Jaffna franchise has won the most LPL titles with four: the inaugural 2020 season as Jaffna Stallions, followed by 2021, 2022 and 2024 as Jaffna Kings.
Sri Lanka Cricket postponed the 2025 edition in October 2025 so venues could be prepared for the 2026 Men's T20 World Cup, which Sri Lanka co-hosted with India in February-March 2026. The sixth LPL edition was instead played from 17 July to 8 August 2026.
Galle Gallants won the 2026 Lanka Premier League, beating Jaffna Kings in the final to claim their first title. Lahiru Udara (Kandy Royals) was the leading run-scorer with 434 runs and Eshan Malinga (Galle Gallants) the leading wicket-taker with 17 wickets.
