Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL)
History & Evolution
The Women's Big Bash League (WBBL) was launched by Cricket Australia in 2015-16 as the world's first fully professionalised women's T20 franchise competition, with eight city-based teams mirroring the men's Big Bash League. Sydney Thunder won the inaugural title, and four clubs β Sydney Thunder, Sydney Sixers, Brisbane Heat and Adelaide Strikers β have since claimed two championships each. The league has been title-sponsored by rebel (2015-2021) and Weber (since 2021-22), and is widely regarded as one of the strongest domestic women's T20 competitions in the world. In the most recent season, WBBL|11 (2025-26), the Hobart Hurricanes won their maiden title, beating the Perth Scorchers by 8 wickets in the final on 13 December 2025.
