History & Evolution
The Women's Premier League (WPL) is India's premier women's T20 franchise competition, established by the BCCI in 2022 with its first season played in March 2023 under Tata Group title sponsorship. Five city-based franchises contest the league: Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Gujarat Giants and UP Warriorz. Mumbai Indians won the inaugural title in 2023, and through 2026 the trophy has been shared between Mumbai Indians (2023, 2025) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (2024, 2026), while Delhi Capitals have finished runners-up in all four finals. The 2026 edition moved to a January-February window, with RCB completing a record chase against Delhi Capitals in the final at Vadodara on 5 February 2026.
