How Teams Qualify for the Super 7

According to the tournament format shown by the ICC, the top three teams from each group, along with the next-highest placed team across the two groups, will progress to the Super 7 stage.

The seven pre-seeded Super 7 allocations are:

A1 – India | A2 – Australia | A3 – Pakistan | AB4 – England | B1 – New Zealand | B2 – South Africa | B3 – Sri Lanka

If a non-seeded team finishes in a qualifying position above a pre-seeded team, it assumes the Super 7 position allocated to the pre-seeded team it displaced.

Semi-final 2November 18, 2027Tshwane
FinalNovember 21, 2027Johannesburg

The 2027 ODI World Cup final will be played in Johannesburg on November 21, 2027.

When and where will the tournament be played?

South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia will jointly host the World Cup. The ICC has confirmed a field of 14 teams, with 57 matches across 12 venues.

IANS reports that the tournament will run from 2 October to 21 November 2027. The detailed schedule announcement will provide the match-by-match dates and venues.

Which teams have qualified for World Cup 2027?

Ten teams have secured their places, according to Sky Sports’ qualification report. South Africa and Zimbabwe qualify as hosts, with eight other teams coming through the ODI rankings route.

Qualification route Teams
Host places South Africa, Zimbabwe
ODI rankings India, Australia, New Zealand, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, England, Afghanistan, Bangladesh
Remaining places Four teams to be decided through the World Cup Qualifier

West Indies and Ireland must take the qualifying route. Their absence from the confirmed list does not mean they are out of the tournament.

Namibia’s role as a host does not automatically guarantee its team a place. It must still qualify. The final 14-team line-up is therefore not yet complete.

How will the new World Cup format work?

The ICC announced a revised format in July 2026. It includes a Super Series, two groups of six and a Super 7 stage before the semi-finals and final.

Super Series: Three teams compete for one place

The three lowest-ranked teams among the 14 qualifiers will begin in the Super Series. Each plays the other two once, and only the side finishing first advances.

That winner joins the other 11 teams in the next round.

Group stage: Two groups of six

The 12 teams will be split into two groups of six. Each side plays five matches, meeting every other team in its group once.

The top three from each group advance. The next best-placed team across the two groups also qualifies, taking the next stage to seven teams.

Super 7 and knockout matches

Every Super 7 team plays the other six once, producing 21 matches. The leading four teams reach the semi-finals.

First plays fourth and second plays third. The two winners meet in the final.

Which stadiums will host the matches?

The ICC named the following venues in July. South Africa has eight grounds, Zimbabwe three and Namibia one.

Country City Venue
South Africa Johannesburg Wanderers Stadium
South Africa Tshwane Centurion
South Africa Cape Town Newlands Cricket Ground
South Africa Durban Kingsmead Cricket Ground
South Africa Gqeberha St George’s Park
